My coaching journey has so far taken me to various challenges in meeting the learning needs of English users among schoolchildren, undergraduates and professionals. Over the years, I have coached English learners of all ages, local and expatriate professionals, business undergraduates, international school students, and IELTS and MUET candidates to help develop their: American English British English General English Conversational English Spoken English Written English Business English Academic English
With 25 years of English learning experience, my approach covers all the essentials and principles that are integral to fulfilling one’s linguistic potential. As my English was extremely poor at the initial stage of my development, I had to take on countless challenges in learning the language from scratch. Knowing how to make this journey a success has empowered me to inspire those looking to make a similar leap. Using learning materials that are mostly sourced from the Internet, every lesson aims to address what the students lack fundamentally and subsequently help them acquire the skills required to use the language effectively. Unlike conventional classes that focus on students’ short-term needs, the objective here is basically to make students better users of the language in the long run. For example, the discussion that follows the completion of a Cambridge Primary Checkpoint or KS2 SATs reading comprehension worksheet is not a simple Q and A session where the correct answer to each question is given. To strengthen students’ competence in tackling any reading comprehension questions, I offer constructive feedback on their work, explain the right approach to answering these questions, and make key suggestions for improving their word choice and sentence construction. Such extensive input invariably helps students improve their grammar, vocabulary, and listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. But the biggest difference between my approach and others' is probably the sole focus on promoting an organic and holistic acquisition of the language. This mindset is reflected in each and every learning activity that my coaching covers. The best part is, most of these activities are actually done before or after the weekly lesson. That means when you pay for one session, you are essentially getting a week's worth of learning. Ultimately, no matter what your initial purpose of taking my lessons might be, the end goal is to reinforce your language foundations so that in the foreseeable future you can use the language effectively in any situation—whether for exam, coursework or business purposes. And perhaps more importantly, you can continue to work on your command of the language through self-study once you have grasped the basics and developed the right attitude to learning—saving you a large sum of fees in the long term.
No matter where you are in your English learning journey, Jion will definitely be able to help you improve. Thanks to his friendly personality and fluent English, the lessons are fun, interesting and easy to follow. But what I like most about him is his ability to inspire you to keep learning and growing.
Whether it's face-to-face or online, Jion puts a great amount of effort into coaching his students. His passion for the English language is inspiring. When I first approached him for guidance on my IELTS, I was hoping to get some quick tips on how to improve my writing. To be honest, due to the heavy workload I was dealing with, I was looking for something that could make my preparations easier. Surprisingly, Jion told me from the start that we wouldn't focus on the answering techniques. I thought that wasn't a good idea because I was struggling a bit in the previous writing paper. But I gave it a try anyway. Thank God it turned out to be the right decision. Instead of spoon-feeding me with things that I already knew, he made me see the whole picture of how to write better. For example, he showed me how to convey and organize my ideas, and explained a few ways that I could use to make the writing more interesting. All that was really helpful. Without his input, I might not have achieved the score I wished for. And I'm really grateful to Jion for making me realize that there's no shortcut to improving my writing skills. It's something that I need to continuously work on. Thank you so much for your time and effort, Jion!
Jion's excellent command of the language and willingness to share his knowledge are evident in his approach to language coaching. Regardless of the difficulty of the topic, he has a canny ability to explain it in a comprehensible and compelling way. When coaching undergraduates in academic writing, showing them how to present a logical and convincing argument, his grasp of linguistic nuances and attention to detail are particularly impressive.
With so many websites giving free English learning tips these days, I thought it wouldn't be necessary to get a tutor. But after taking Jion’s one-on-one lessons, I changed my mind. For a busy working professional like me, I always wanted to improve my English without filling my schedule with too many lessons. His approach was really helpful in that regard. He shared with me plenty of tips on how to practice my English skills by myself. Wherever I go, I'm now able to use every opportunity I have to improve my English further.
Jion is a great English language coach. I like how he makes everything easy for me to understand. The detailed explanation also shows his dedication to teaching. I’m really grateful for the opportunity to learn from such an experienced English speaker.
Jion is so fluent and confident with the English language. He helped improve my grammar with patience, teaching me how to change the sentence structure to make it more native-like. Also, he gave me many useful tips on academic writing. It was an excellent learning experience for me. I really appreciate his work.
I like Jion’s approach. He always shares with me his opinions on my daughter’s work. For each essay, he also shows her what she must do to improve. His comments are very useful!
Jion's grammar and writing skills are very good. His advice helped me a lot and he was willing to explain everything in detail. I'm so glad that I can now write with confidence!
Jion is very thoughtful. Even after the lesson is over, he still gives Joanne suggestions on how to improve. His concern for the student's learning progress is great to see.
I’m so happy that I took Jion’s lessons. The tips that he shared with me were really useful. He were very helpful in answering my questions too. Overall, I truly appreciate what he taught me.

In the first lesson, there will be a discussion on which are the weak topics and what challenges the students face.
Studied Bachelor of Computer Engineering (University Malaya); currently studying Bachelor of Mathematics (University of Malaya)
10 years of teaching experience. Specialise in tutoring Mathematics. Subjects covered: Mathematics (IGCSE) Mathematics (SPM) Additional Mathematics (IGCSE) Additional Mathematics (SPM) Mathematics (A-Levels)
Focuses on understanding rather than repetitive practice to remember steps of solution Explains patiently until students understand Encourage students to use their own method and explains from their perspective Generally, students who are weak in Mathematics either have no understanding on what is going on, or lack the confidence when it comes to Mathematics. My method is I will explain the understanding to students from the very bottom and work my way up. As students are able to solve questions with their own understanding, their confidence will gradually increase. Believes that studying should be fun
Although I started out with a strong dislike of maths, Mr Edmund helped me find joy and confidence in it. His determination to teach us to truly understand the material, and not simply answer the exam questions, is what sets him apart from other maths teachers I've had. His patience and resilience with my classmates and I (despite our incompetence at times) was admirable, and I'll always be grateful for the knowledge I've learned from him.
I'm really grateful to my tutor - Edmund for guiding and teaching me with my Add Maths & Maths! I had a hard time keeping up with classes but Edmund helped me learn everything I needed to get a Good score or B+ & A respectively! 🥰ðŸ‘
Mr Edmund is patient in his teaching. He will find different ways to make you understand the methods in solving the math problems with extra exercises provided in class. His unique way of teaching makes math subject interesting!
In a nutshell, you really helped me out by understanding where and what I didn’t know! W/no prior add math, you had to essentially teach me the whole syllabus within 2 months. It was a struggle at first but you helped break down different topics into easily understandable lessons 😠And even though later on in the more challenging parts of A-level math, you would take the time to go over the chapters and show me the different ways to tackle problems. It’s hard to say just how much your help has pushed me through my course! Here are my results: A-level Maths: A* A-level Further Maths: A
He has the most patience in teaching from any other teacher I know. Any math or add math questions can ask him, he would be glad to teach you, his explanation is really clear and understandableðŸ‘. I would ask him to teach me more for further math in the future.

Very friendly and good in explaining.
She gives very thorough and detailed explanations in a way that is easy to understand and her classes are never boring.
Very helpful, kind and a brilliant tutor. She has a deep understanding of the subjects she teaches and she has mastered the way to teach various students from different backgrounds including me.
She is using her own style and notes. She has an original style of teaching and explains in simpler terms. She has a fun personality which keeps students alert during long periods of class.
She's funny and it is very easy to talk to her! she makes learning fun
Joanne taught my first son a few years back and she changes his perception about chemistry and he got A* for his IGCSE paper. Now Joanne is also teaching my second son and he agrees that Joanne is the best Chemistry teacher as she always is able to deliver complicated topics in a much easier way. Highly recommended
I'm really impressed with Sylvia Joanne of IB HL Chemistry and mode of delivery, I'll highly recommended she to parents whose kids need help with IB chemistry . My son had a lot of question and needed help to understanding basic concept , Sylvia Joanne not only clarified his understanding, but also developed a really good rapport with him that has strengthened his confidence .
She is someone who I can communicate easily with. I am not afraid to ask her questions and she teaches in detail. She goes through everything thoroughly and she really prepared me for my IGCSE exam. Because of her intensive tuition classes, I have done very well for my IGCSE chemistry.
All the classes were really good, for topics i had trouble in she would prepare her own notes for me and make me understand really well step by step from the basics. Her explanations were very easy to comprehend. Furthermore, she would make time to have extra classes when I needed and, she knew the A- level syllabus very well and what key points to remember for the exam questions in past papers.
She made the class a safe environment to learn in. Whenever I got a concept or a question wrong she will patiently explain. The class was always very interactive and fun allowing me to not be as tense. With her help, i can say that my grades improved significantly during my A2 year as that’s when she started teaching me.
Everything she says is clearly understandable. Her teaching style is very effective. She makes sure I understand why and how about chemistry instead of making me memorise information.
Humbleness and relatability towards the students. Class is always lively, cheerful and informative. She's knowldegable and fun at the same time, what a cool combo! I'm very glad to have met this person, not just a teacher to me, but a friend :)
Friendly, easy to communicate with, patient and good in explaining concepts in an easy and understandable manner. Classes were always interactive, fun and never boring. Sylvia prepared me well ahead of my IGCSE and pre-u exams which led to me achieving an A* in chemistry.
Awesome tutor. Very well versed wirh content and her online lessons are extremely effective. Very patient as well when explaining difficult concept. One of the best tutor out there.
Dr Sylvia is an exceptional teacher. She explains concepts clearly from a fresh perspective and takes the extra effort to make sure students understand topics. Her notes are intentional and concise as well so that students are well-covered before exams. Even though I had a hard time with chemistry, Dr Sylvia always makes it fun and simpler to learn.â¤ï¸
Experience was good. Explains concepts well. Improved in the subject.
All my classes were online since we started during the MCO in 2020. Since then my grades have drastically improved thanks to Ms Sylvia’s help. She taught me well and made me enjoy doing Chemistry
She was a great teacher. She made chemistry more interesting for me. I started loving chemistry more because of her. Her teaching method is easier and more understanding. She always make sure that I've understand the topic she's teaching on that day. It's a pleasure to have a great teacher like her to teach me. Thank you teacher.
Enthusiasm during lessons, various accompanied examples for better understanding
Thank you for helping me throughout the A-level Chemistry examinations. Because of your patience and encouragement, I am able to achieve A* in my A-Level Chemistry. You are the teacher who inspired me to go above and beyond, took your time, and ensured I am on the right track.
Utmost familiarity with the curriculum. Constantly making sure there are no additions to the syllabus that we didn't miss, and not realiant on the class teacher. Basically, if you join her class(in time) then you will be prepared enough to compete among the highest scorers in Chemistry in the world. Efficiency of the classes is also very high.
Lessons are very straight to the point and easy to remember. There are no long winded detailed explanations, only the information you will need for your exams. Notes are easy to understand and simple. A lot of material is taught in an hour of class so the learning process isn't dragged and doing pass year papers can start quicker for more practice.
I have attended tuition classes with Ms Sylvia for about 6 months for my A-Levels. While I feel I have worked hard enough in Chemistry, Ms Sylvia has worked double - in our starting weeks, Ms Sylvia provided us with handwritten notes on chapters we felt we had a weaker grasp on, which helped me immensely. Ms Sylvia's classes were engaging, as her explanations were simple enough for me to understand each lesson. With every revision of past papers Ms Sylvia asked us to finish, I could understand where and why I was going wrong with greater ease. I felt confident giving my Chemistry exams and I have Ms Sylvia to thank for everything. I would definitely recommend her to anyone interested in attending extra coaching for Chemistry. Thank you so much again Ms Sylvia!
She provided a good foundation in the basics of chemistry which helped me apply them when learning the different chapters. She explained all the chemistry concepts well and I could understand them quicker than in school. She also provided good workbooks and test papers for me to practise on.
She has a very good teaching style that allows me to fully understand the topic even when it was one of my weakest ones and always made the lessons very interactive and engaging.
Ms Sylvia explained the concepts of Chemistry in a very understanding and creative manner. She always spent an adequate amount of time on each topic and gave us the right amount of practice before moving to the next topic. Her detailed notes helped me a lot and she was always willing to help me with concepts that I was confused with outside of lesson time as well.
Dr Sylvia always explained concepts in a clear, understandable manner and taught real life applications of chem to make it more interesting. Her notes were really helpful and concise as well.
I enjoyed her classes which were very structured and she gave very good, summarized notes which were helpful whilst studying. She also tailored our classes to what we needed to focus on and improve and through her classes, my grade for Chemistry improved greatly from C to an A.
Bachelor of Science (Honours) in psychology
I am a teacher, formerly a senior teacher at English House. I have produced excellent results with my students there. I have 11 years experience in teaching adults. Also, I taught English to children (including teenagers) for 5 years, at English House and at homes for underprivileged kids. I was previously a top student at Garden International School and Epsom College in England.
I focus on 3 areas: 1. Helping children (including teenagers) improve their grades 2. Proficiency in the English language for adults and children 3. Helping children weak in the English language improve and increase self-confidence. I have assisted children from National and International schools in improving their grades. Students who failed their exams improved to passing grades, students with C's improved to B's, and B students became A students. I help adults and children clients improve their written and spoken English. I use effective techniques to help them improve their grammar. I also can help them improve their essay writing, critical thinking and creativity. Having been a top student in my studying days and having lived in England, I have the experience to be of help. I also have a special skill at helping children students weak in English and who have poor self-confidence improve. For example, one of my teenage students was failing all his subjects badly, including English. After just over a year with me, his English grade improved from an E to a C. Despite receiving tuition from other teachers in other school subjects, he continued to fail in all subjects except English. He became more self-confident. I also provide added value by helping adults and children manage stress better, if they are open to it. I do this by sharing a psychology technique called mindfulness. My clients have responded well: I've seen children's focus and grades improve. Adult clients report managing stress better and being more positive.
Gerrald follows a friendly and understandable approach towards teaching. All the topics are explained in a detailed fashion.

Shanmugapriya is really good teacher.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
I have previously taught a class of primary students as a part-time classroom teacher for a month, which started off my interest in teaching. I've started to do 1-on-1 classes with students on programming (mainly python).
I will always read through what I will teach before entering the class to ensure I know what I am talking about before projecting it into the young minds. Personally, I tend to make an image of a subject which is easily imaginable so the students would be able to understand concepts not just through alphabets and words, but visually as well. Mainly, I prefer to guide them through by doing hands-on exercises, so that we can go over obstacles together.
Always sure on what to do. Very helpful.
Really prepares for the tutoring sessions and tries his best to accommodate to students' needs
Very humble and a good teacher as well. Patient and steady about the lesson. Overall a good teacher.

Bachelor of Arts in Economics
Victor attended Taylor's College Sri Hartamas and studied IB, and SMK Damansara Utama for SPM. He obtained 41 points for IB, inclusive of 7's in Economics, Mathematics, and Physics, as well as perfect scores for the Reading section of the SAT (800), and 800 for Mathematics Level 2, Chemistry, and Physics. After a turn of fate, he then attended University of Chicago's Bachelor of Arts Economics program (highest number of Economics Nobel Prizes in the world) and became a beneficiary of the now discontinued JPA Ivy League dan Setara Scholarship (RM1.2 million value). Having worked in consulting, published journalistic articles, as well as working in human rights and having traveled to many different countries across the world, Victorhas a strong interest in foreign affairs, the interconnectivity of knowledge, and in developing the talent of everyone he meets and encounters. He is incredibly passionate about teaching students, even more passionate about learning, and most passionate about helping his students to become learners that want and desire to learn with a purpose in their lives, and has assisted students in achieving their dreams and changing their lives by attending their dream universities and attaining their desired scholarships. Victor enjoys reading extensively, to the point that he was featured in the Star Newspaper in 2019 for reading 350 books in the course of a year to date (including Les Miserables, War and Peace, and Crime and Punishment) before completing 400 over the course of the year.
I believe that when it comes to education, there is no compromise. That's why I am committed to providing the longest-term value possible to you as you pursue your educational dreams, and will provide you a tailored educational experience from start to finish that suits your immediate needs and addresses your goals from the outset. I am intentional about creating an enjoyable and productive educational experience in which my students are motivated to succeed and understand WHY they want to succeed. It's not logical to force a student to study - they have to want it. That's what I firmly believe. In my lessons, I help my students to develop critical thinking skills through two-way conversations that help them to use their material effectively, examine the practical implications of what they are learning in the real world, and to enjoy every single second of the process. During my one on one classes, most of my students ask me for specific topic reviews, and students also frequently come to me with practice exams, which I solve on the spot and explain to them. My online classes are usually the same, although they are conducted over Skype and make use of resources like screen-sharing and a digital whiteboard. In both cases, my approach consists of a mutually agreed schedule that is worked out between me and the student that is designed for efficiency, allows us to assess our progress, and helps students to understand rather than memorize by rote. Students usually request for 2-6 hours per week prior to their exams, and before sessions, we will come up with a plan of what they would like to cover or require assistance with. Having said that, my experience with different exam varieties and student learning styles is extensive, and my tutoring approach tailors to each student accordingly depending on the student's needs first and foremost. In both my in person and online classes, I use a combination of Google Drive, Skype, and Zoom in order to populate materials to my students as well as solve problems live. For scholarship interview and admissions preparation, I arrange mock interviews for my students during which I quiz them both on technical and behavioral interview questions, and also help students with tailoring their applications and consistently show their best side to admissions committees through a series of informational interviews and application review sessions. If you engage my services, you will secure my commitment to provide you or your child a custom-made and well-tailored educational experience from start to finish. Admissions Counselling & Skills Mentorship Students under my guidance have been admitted to the following schools: Boarding School admissions: Andover, Exeter, the Lawrenceville School University admissions: University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Yale University, Princeton University, University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins University, University of California, Imperial College London, Kings College London, Princeton University. Competitions: HKIMO (Gold), Kangaroo Mathematics Competition (Gold), Malaysia Earth Science Olympiad (Gold), SEA Games participation (2x)

Out of all the tutors I've encountered throughout my life, Victor is one of a kind. Aside to being a great mentor, he is very knowledgeable in various fields, from Mathematics to Economics and even Psychology just from the love of reading books (he is also resourceful too). He inspires me to dream big and go through the distance, based on his motivational talks we had once in a while and always motivates me to do my best in what I do. I respect him a lot for his understanding, patience and dedication as a mentor to ensure that his students excel in their studies and that's what I admire most. He open my eyes to a lot of things in life with respect to the importance of education and knowledge that will help optimize my chances to achieve my goals. He's definitely my mentor and my life coach! Thank you Victor :)
Victor is incredibly friendly, engaging, and dedicated while he is teaching. Not only that, he is resourceful with class materials (such as providing past years and examiner reports), he is also very thorough when reviewing the work done for classes. By reviewing my work for classes and giving me the necessary tips and tricks in writing, Victor has helped me improve my writing skills.
