I am Australian and have been teaching Piano for the past 15 years to a variety of students ranging from 6 to 30 years old. I teach from beginner level to advanced diploma level. Once a student myself, I have previously studied with James Muir (AMEB examiner and pianist) and Elizabeth Powell (pianist and former Head of Sydney Conservatory of Music). I charge RM 180+/hour starting from beginner levels, up to RM410/hour for advanced levels. Travel costs are charged separately. Lessons are a duration of 1 hour minimum. Reasons why 1 hour is minimum. A typical lesson involves: Learning/playing technical Scales (15 min) Learning Pieces. Some students take weeks to learn a piece, others take months. Most students learn more than one piece. Typically a student will learn 3+ pieces depending on the Grade they are taking. (30 min) Theory + Pieces. Learning a piece involves going through the fundamentals and understanding concepts. Students take time processing this information. This can easily take up half a lesson. (10 min) Aural. Being able to recognise fundamentals through listening. This is a small component of Graded lessons, but it also takes time to learn over a period of weeks, months and even years. (10 min) As you can see, 15 + 30 + 10 + 10 minutes = 65 minutes. This is why I only teach 60 minute lessons as a minimum!
My lessons are simple. - Learn how to read music proficiently - Exercise fingers with scales - Learn finger and hand techniques - Learn music pieces by yourself at some point, then I will correct and fine tune any mistakes. Let me say this about learning music no matter what instrument you play. Hardwork and practise is key. Not talent.
