Mechanics of Materials 1 is an introductory engineering course that focuses on the behavior of materials under various loads and stresses. Students will learn the fundamental concepts of stress, strain, and deformation in solids, as well as how to analyze the mechanical properties of materials. Topics covered include axial and torsional loading, bending, shear, and combined stresses in beams and columns. The course also introduces basic concepts of material properties, such as elasticity, plasticity, and fracture mechanics. Practical applications and real-world examples are used to illustrate the principles of mechanics of materials. By the end of the course, students will gain a strong foundation in understanding how materials respond to external forces and how to analyze and design simple structural components.
