Tutoring Approach

To make lessons engaging, I usually introduce the real-world applications of mathematics before diving into the theoretical and examinable content. However, this could vary across individuals based on their requirements. The minimum duration of each lesson is 1 hour. Last but not least, I have three year of experience in teaching the stated subjects.

I have 10 years of tutoring experience and currently I am teaching CIE A Level Chemistry in a renowned college. I am a registered IGCSE exam marker. Through marking, I truly understand about the key points that are expected. Hence, during lesson delivery, I always stress on popular exam questions and theories that will be assessed. As a former A level student, I truly understand the difficulties faced by students. Hence, I always use easy and creative ways to explain the theories.

I always believe that students' understanding can be strengthened through frequent exercises. Hence, at the end of every topic, students will be required to complete several selected past year topical questions and confusion will be clarified. Formative test is given after every 2 to 3 topics taught. When exam is around the corner, mock exam papers will be given and discussed accordingly. I have prepared topical summaries too and common mistakes among students are pointed out accordingly.

I think my best trait is my ability to analyse and understand the needs of students. I have vast experience at helping students approach the Cambridge exams, with a very good success rate at both FCE, CAE, and IELTS.

The nature of my lessons is about making sure the students enjoy learning English and enjoy the content of the lessons. Like any class, I have goals to achieve at the end of the classes, but I like to have students complete activities adapted from the book, and in the most interactive ways. I teach depending on the students' abilities and personalities. I don't believe in standard techniques or lesson plans, as every student is different. Definitely need to customise the teaching methods according to students' needs. I also believe that education is more than just paper chasing and scoring A's. Critical thinking and the ability of independent self-thought is much more important to prepare the students' for the future rather than just rote-learning to score A's and learn nothing in the process.

My technique would greatly involve the use of graphics/ videos as it is the best tool to enhance students understanding.
