I believe in teaching through the 3D's approach (directing, discussing and delegating) to help students learn, grow and become more independent. Every lesson prepared by me follows the broad objective outlined initially for the subject. Lessons include practical real world cases/scenarios to make the topic more relevant and interesting. I also encourage students to participate and share their opinions and queries. I know a lesson has been effective when the student is interacting and asking questions, tapping into their background knowledge, and building new skills.

The foundation is of course the core syllabus for the subject and level being taught. However, very early on, I try to get to know the student, his/her aspirations and interests, and I then try to give added examples, application of principles etc, based on those interests and on real time developments and current events. The approach I try to take is that of a mentor, someone who has successfully navigated what the student is now attempting, and building a relationship based on trust and sincere friendship is key to the whole endeavour. I am well known for patiently explaining a concept again and again until I see the light of understanding in my student's eyes.

I have 5 years of experience teaching both Add Maths and English. I started by teaching my 17-year old sister Maths. She was a tough nut to crack as she was so slow and disinterested. It's through her that I learnt that not everyone is created equal and everyone has his/her unique traits. Its about finding the strength in my students and making them more confident of themselves. I have a strong passion in teaching because I believe teaching is a 2-way learning.

Firstly, I will start with getting to know the student so he/she is comfortable and won't be afraid of asking questions. Secondly, my lessons are tailored to the needs of any particular student. There is no standard approach i use in teaching. Asking a lot of questions is important to know the main reason behind hiring me as a tutor. Thirdly, a lot of exercises will be given at the end of every chapter to assess the student's understanding of the chapter. Learning is a lifelong journey. It's my duty to impart this value in every of my student so that learning does not end after our 2-hour classes.

I am a certified education graduate specialized in Teaching English as a Second Language qualified to teach in secondary schools in Malaysia. As my final project revolves around the use of CEFR in the teaching of English, I can also tutor PT3 students for their examination. I can teach English Literature as a plus one for development of both critical thinking and creative writing for the students as I am well equipped considering my minor in Literature for my degree.

Tutoring Approach

Being young myself, I do not restrict the teaching and learning of a language only on the Grammar and how to use the vocabulary - this is a traditional method that do not benefit the students. I prefer discussion based lessons to enhance students' confidence in using the language verbally as the only way to get better at this is by constantly practising the language without minding the errors and mistakes. I emphasize on the use of media and internet for my lessons to help students with different learning styles. Other than teaching students on how to read, write, speak and listen better, I would also include the teaching of people and culture as well as the current issues happening around the world as an attempt to broaden their general knowledge. The environment of the tutoring will be casual and fun without any discrimination or restriction being put on the students, as I believe this is helpful to avoid any mental filter or barrier to be formed on the learning of English itself.
