I have about a total of 7-8 years of experience in teaching/tutoring a wide range of age groups between 2.5- 17 years old. I, however, really enjoy being crazy in the classroom as I believe that is the only way to stick in the student's mind. My classrooms are usually loud and noisy. I usually get on the floor with the kids to engage them in all the activities. Learning is always fun when you become just one more in their group.

Tutoring Approach

I learned that doing the same exercise for more than 20 minutes would bore the students, so I usually keep my activities/ exercises short for about a maximum of 20 minutes for the older ones and about 10-15 minutes for the younger age group. I would start with a short game for schema activation to boost up their mood and then I go into the lesson for the day which would last for about 10-20 mins(depending on age range). Getting the students to interpret the knowledge they learned into activities/ exercises, continued with more games related to the topics and I would alternate them with grammar exercises in between. I would end the lesson with a short recap later on.

I have around 1 year of teaching. I have been teaching students of various age since I was still in high school. Currently I'm teaching mathematics and add. math for IGCSE student. My way of teaching is quite flexible as I try to get to know with my student for the first class and try to suit myself with their level. Because of the restricted time, I don't have much experience since I am going to further my study at UKM during that time. I would revise the module given and try to brainstorm on how to create the syllabus becoming more fun to learn. Besides, I will make sure that my students to fully understand the concept first, and then I will carry out activities to apply the theory that we have learned as all of us know that application in daily life is very significant. Next, presentation by group or individual is a must. It can help to student to express and share what in their mind. As a teacher, we can detect whether the students are fully understand or just memorize the facts. Q & A during the last session is also crucial. It can help students to ask and discuss about the things that they have learned.
