I started tutoring high school students in Maths and Science subjects. Then, I went on to tutor Chemistry and Math classes to freshman, sophomores, and even mature students in college. My philosophy is simple, I enjoy teaching for the sake of knowledge. However, I do understand the need of passing classes with flying colours. So, I will tailor the class to the needs of the students and move at a pace to meet their individual goals.

Tutoring Approach

I usually begin by gauging the students understanding and grasp of the material first before planning my lessons. Secondly, I do not teach to replace what they already learn at school. I aim to supplement it, and therefore, will be focusing on strengthening understanding through problem-solving and interactive learning of the material. If there is a fundamental lack of understanding of the material, I will do my best to fill in the gaps by making extensive notes, providing external resources, and assigning problem sets. My lesson is one of a kind simply due to my dedication to tailoring lessons according to individual student needs. I will be using Webex/Zoom as my teaching platform, which means I will have all my classes online. My classes, therefore, will be recorded and sent to both parents and the student.

At the age of 16, I started my first teaching class. I tutored students at the same level or lower. In the last 10 years, I have developed great interpersonal and teaching skills. I have also met various students in my teaching career, and I understand how to encourage them to be confident and self-motivated in their study.

I have been telling my student to think me as a classmate instead of a higher level creature. I believe no one is perfect, even teacher makes mistake. However, since I have completed my education before them I do believe I am qualified to provide them necessary guidance. Being part of World's top university, I have been exposed to creative and effective ways of teaching. I have applied these teaching methods when I tutored students. I encouraged self-learning and frequent question and answer (Q and A) sessions to test understanding of difficult concept. However, when the student did not fully grasp the concept, I tend to find a new approach to make the student fully understand the subject.

In every tutoring session, I will start with revising the last topic with the students. Next, I will brief the student about the learning outcome that has to be achieved at the end of session. Then, I will go into the content of a particular topic with some past examination questions as supplement. At the end of the lesson, I will briefly go through the topic against with referral to the content and learning outcomes. I have first started tutoring my brother and brother's friend since the age of 17 in GCSE Chemistry and Biology on twice a week basis for two months. This was for no charge because I enjoyed it. I enjoyed watching my students slowly changing the way how they tackle questions an eventually get the right answers. Upon becoming an university student, I took the tutoring career onto a higher level by joining an after-school study academy in Korea as a part time teacher.

Tutoring Approach

All tutorial directions will be decided after the initial meeting with the student and also depending on the student's learning speed, attitude and goals. This means that for uni entrance mentorship, students' areas of interests in the subject and extracurricular readings need to be identified before any feedback work on personal statement is done. As for GCSE and IB revision tuition, I believe that it is important to identify the topics that the students find difficult by giving them a past paper to do and then drill the areas of weakness with multiple past papers. Most importantly, my tutoring aim is to help students enjoy their subjects by simplifying problems and showing them that they can achieve a full marks on a question because often if you are praised for being good in a subject, you will like the subject.
