Teaching is a skill that is imbued in me, as I have a natural knack in understanding students capabilites and figuring out methods in which teaches them the best. I take pride in keeping my classes fun while achieving the goal in hand. I have professionally taught in a school under the UNHCR and have freelanced as a home tutor as well. My main expertise falls in teaching science, maths and English however I have experience teaching other subjects.

I initially familiarise myself with student syllabus, test and exam schedule, and presence of any projects. I then follow up by acknowledging what the student understands in his/hers subjects and identifying any weaknesses. It is important to note that each pupil learns differently and with that in mind, I can be very flexible with my teaching methods ranging from memorization techniques all the way to visual aids and combination of both. Patience is key, so I am willing to invest ample hours in order to achieve the best results. I believe a strong base is neccesary for pupil to advance in the academic world, hence I would carry out tests to assess how strong their core foundation in the subjects are. I also make additional homework and assignments to further reinforce students grasp on certain topics, if need be.

My tutoring approach differs broadly according to the interests of the students. For those who are keen on a structured language learning, the classical classroom method is used (books, dictionary, oral and listening aids). For those who prefer the audiovisual method, we can use mediums such as Youtube videos, movies and songs. My lessons can be conducted in Malay and/or English, although some students also prefer the hard immersion method where the medium of teaching is purely French. The pace of teaching depends on your goals in proficiency and your investment (time and energy) towards it.

Solid grounding in practice and past examination papers with each topic tutored in will be accompanied by a short test to ensure complete comprehension of a subject. Cumulative topics will also be tested in preparation of major mid sem and final exams. Further, I understand the importance of illustrating the application of knowledge learnt to real world problems as this enriches the the educational experience, better prepares students for answering examination questions as opposed to question spotting. This is done by relating questions in class and homework to how it can be applied in industry and challenging the student in thinking deeper about a particular definition or formula or concept in any given subject and its sub-topics.
