I am full time home tutor for 7 years. I have graduated from IIUM for my Bachelor in Manufacturing Engineering and c Masters in Engineering Management from UPM. I emphasis more on foundations of syllabus and exercises. I always try to correlate the principle of syllabus with nature, in order to gain attentions and excitation from the students.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching lessons will be referred solely to the current syllabus by the Ministry of Education. I prefer to have two-way communications with the student, in order to get them involved in the lesson especially with the latest Kemahiran Berfikir Aras Tinggi for KBAT format. I believe in the theory of home tutor should be more like a peer to the student rather than be like a conventional teacher. Both are needed, though. Every student have their own strengths and weaknesses, thus techniques to be used will be based from their preferences. Images, graphics, colourful and interesting short notes are few to be named.

First of all, I would try to learn the person/student on what style should be used to teach she/he. Either it is through facts, or visual. And, I will ask them if they have any preferable style of teaching. So basically, I am flexible. I will be teaching using mind maps. It is because, mind maps work for our brain. It connects the information of one thing to another, and work like neurons in our brain that are connected to each other. And, I like learning or teaching while writing. That way, nothing will be left behind or forgotten. I will emphasized the student to do exercises. Because, I believe practice make perfect! I’ll at least try to finish the syllabus 2 months before the date of final exam so I’ll use the rest of 2 months to recap and drill on necessary topics.

I really love teaching and my passion after obtaining my Phd is to become an educator. Since I really love teaching, I am up for all the challenge of teaching stubborn kids. I am patient in ensuring the student to understand their subject no matter how long it takes to make sure they understand because to me the key of a student to understand a certain subject is the willingness and optimism of the teacher itself. I am willing to teach extra hour without extra payment as long as the student are willing to cooperate. My experience in teaching student showed me that student need extra attention from the teacher to guide them to every steps of a question because they have to know the right technique to answer a question since knowing the right answer is not enough if they did know the way to answer it. I would encourage the student to prepare their own notes with my guidance since I would not spoon feed them by giving prepared notes by me because student would learn nothing if we give them everything. I believed in a lot of practices in answering question because by doing that the student will be familiar with the question pattern and it would be easy for them in the future. Using map concept and examples for a fresh input when arrive on new topic, so that the students know what will they learn in that chapter. Using various of handouts from numerous academical scholars related to that subject, making the students more knowledgeable on that field of studies. Showing few tips on how to master each topics by doing the acronym for memorizing difficult terms. I always follow the exam format and deliver guides to students, so that they will not burden to studies a lot of topics (make them more focus on subjects that they are weak at). I always shows an example from the exam papers and full solution in accordance to marking format of PT3 and SPM.

Then I realized, different student need different approach and technique, even the same sub topic, not all student can understand by only one method of teaching.

I won't teach at first. I prefer the ice breaking session and student briefly explain what is the main problem within the subject. Then, deeply find the solution according the suitable method uniquely. Cause different approach will result in different outcome. My best technique is parody song. I change the original lyric into subject-related words.

I have a good two years of experience teaching swimming course where I dealt with different representations of students. I also have experience in teaching English to my nieces and nephews for a few years. Apart from having a high score in IELTS test, I have had English as my spoken language when I was abroad for two years in Scotland.
