Tutoring Approach

In order to master any math or science subject, I feel that any student should always strive to grasp the concepts rather than blindly applying the formulas. Aside from preparing the students for exams with adequate exercises, I would also spend a good chunk of time explaining the concepts & logic behind them.

I believe that students should have a good grasp in the fundamentals of the concepts of a certain subject, especially when it comes to math and physics. This is because students may get drowned in the technicality of the subject and cease to look at the topic from different perspectives, which may lead to them disliking the subject entirely. My teaching approach will include intuitive, creative and interesting approaches to explaining important concepts for each topic, before tackling examination styled questions with a range of difficulty. Of course, each student will have different needs as well as a different level of understanding on each topic. I will have to personalise my lessons based on each individual student and hence I find it important for me to get to know my students relatively well enough prior to tutoring to understand how I can help them.
