Studying for examinations is about understanding the basics of the subject, and learn the techniques to answer the examination questions. Nothing can be learnt without a good basics. I usually start by learning about the students' background during the first few classes and preparing some basic assignments for the students to answer. This will help me gauge the students' mastery and understanding of the subject. I believe that actual learning starts from interest, thus building the students' interest in the subject is necessary. ill give 2 sets of printed-out questions and let the student answer one. ill help him by helping him recall the concepts and if turns out he still cannot answer, ill show the solution. usually what i do to my friends to let them see and understand is give them what kind of picture to visualize out of the concepts concerned. for example, for topics involving mathematical functions, i visualize the function as a machine that have numbers as input input and spits out different numbers.
