Tutoring Approach

Teaching approaches can vary for different level of students. Most of the students are not receiving sufficient attention in the school environment (due to class size or other issues); where the student is experiencing particular learning difficulties. My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in tackling exam questions. My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and homework to check understanding continually. I usually focus on exam-style or past year paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique. I set and mark work, giving students detailed feedback so that they can improve quickly.

Since biology involves alot of processes l, the best way is to understand the basic mechanics and theory before trying to answer questions. So, I often put things in laymen terms for students to learn, and NO MEMORIZING! it's personal and tuned to the students needs.
