My tutoring approach is that I always start from the students' point-of-view first, try to understand how they see the topic from their perspective and to understand how they view the subject matter itself. From there I will guide them step-by-step towards the proper understanding, making connections to something that they can relate and/or understand along the way, to the extent that they can feel that they are really the ones who are doing the actual learning. Engaging active participation from the student is the key to make the teaching and learning interesting and successful.

I believe in a communicative approach in tutoring. Instead of the tutor single handedly handing off knowledge and speeding through syllabuses, understanding what the student needs is a crucial step, and furthermore, catering to that need. Teaching approaches can vary for different level of students. Most of the students are not receiving sufficient attention in the school environment (due to class size or other issues); where the student is experiencing particular learning difficulties. My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in tackling exam questions. My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and homework to check understanding continually. I usually focus on exam-style or past year paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique. I set and mark work, giving students detailed feedback so that they can improve quickly.
