Children pick up bad habits and wrong techniques easily in their early years of learning. Hence the first teacher plays a vital role in the success of learning an instrument as corrections of wrong techniques learnt would require diligent and painstaking effort on the part of the teacher as well as the student. Techniques such as the correct key attack, touch, hand position, body movement, transfer of weight etc are taught early on from beginners stage. Success in learning would also depend on how closely a student is able to follow the teacher's instruction on how to practice. A piano lesson would include Practical and Theory of Music, Sight Reading, Aural and Music Appreciation. Practical would comprise of a technique book, a lesson book and additional repertoire pieces.
