Tutoring Approach

I plan my lesson, and make all the necessary preparation ahead, including photocopy of handouts, and lesson content. Lessons involve reading, writing, listening and speaking. Having a good command over the English language, especially grammar, allows me to deliver lessons of impeccable quality. I believe in Albert Einstein's quote "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.", and therefore, I make it a point of teaching in a simple, yet effective manner.

I am a Mathematics tutor of 10 years experience. During my lessons, I always teach 1 chapter at a time. If my students cannot remember whatever I taught, I will repeat them in the next lesson. Subsequently after graduation, I started my working life in commerce and banking industry while teaching tuition part time for many years. My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and  being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems.   My philosophy is based on the idea that learning happens in an environment of mutual respect in which the student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves.  My experience has been that one-to-one personal tuition has a unique value to students because of the ability to resolve the students’ personal barriers to learning in a way that lays the foundations for a deep and lasting understanding of the subject. My approach varies depending on the student’s needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world exampleswherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually.  I don’t lecture to students or ask them to memorise things.  Nor do I do the students’ homework for them! I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student’s understanding and technique. I also give a lot of emphasis to some of the less obvious but vital skills such as essay structure and technique, logical thought, and the effective use of numbers and graphs.

I make teaching experience interesting by conducting discussions and quizzes as to have a better understanding that how much the student has imbibed and what more we need to work on. I work according to a planned schedule, so the syllabus is completed on time and we have ample time of revision. This makes student work under no pressure.

The most important thing as a teacher is to understand the student and be kind. My teaching method is flexible, there are many ways to present teaching to students.
