I graduated with second upper class in BSc in Business in 2010. I also completed MBA in UNITAR International University with CGPA of 3.88 in 2016 and ACCA Professional Qualification in 2020. During my university studies, I was working as a part time tutor for around 4 years. I was handling BM, BI and Maths tuition classes for Standard 4 till Form 3. I am also a certified TESOL (English) teacher. Subsequently after graduation, I started my working life in commerce and banking industry while teaching tuition part time for many years. Currently I am full time lecturer in one of the tertiary colleges in Penang. Overall I have more than 8 years of teaching tuition experience in English, Maths, Add Maths and Economics for secondary schools (SPM, IGCSE) and pre-university levels (STPM).
My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. My philosophy is based on the idea that learning happens in an environment of mutual respect in which the student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves. My experience has been that one-to-one personal tuition has a unique value to students because of the ability to resolve the students’ personal barriers to learning in a way that lays the foundations for a deep and lasting understanding of the subject. My approach varies depending on the student’s needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world exampleswherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually. I don’t lecture to students or ask them to memorise things. Nor do I do the students’ homework for them! I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student’s understanding and technique. I also give a lot of emphasis to some of the less obvious but vital skills such as essay structure and technique, logical thought, and the effective use of numbers and graphs.

I have been teaching SPM and IGCSE level Physics, Science and Maths for the past 6 years. My students have since graduated from school and are in the working arena, as well as pursuing their tertiary education in colleges. My years of experience working in the education and electronics industry has enabled me to conduct the following lectures with target audiences ranging from Secondary students, to students pursuing their diploma as well as to corporate clients. These subjects include Introduction to Raspberry Pi Programming, Physics for SPM, Mathematics for SPM, Physics for IGCSE, Mathemathics for IGCSE, Digital Electronics Fundamentals, Fundamentals of Arduino programming as well as C Program fundamentals.
For Secondary school students, I regularly use simple analogies to describe concepts to my students helping them to understand those concepts rather than memorizing them. I encourage a two-way interaction with my students in order to foster a critical thinking mindset. I also will converse in any language (English, Bahasa Melayu, Hokkien) that is prefered by the student to teach them effectively. As for the Diploma/Foundation/A-level students, I will often share valuable insights and best known methods from the industry to better equip students at the university level to better prepare themselves for the working world.

Identify and recognise the problems faced by students in understanding, through observation and interaction (for example, if student writes 3+3=9, he may just make a common error or he may have more serious concept recognisation problem).
I had a STAT exam in 2 days and it was a very last minute request, but Mr Mike helped me a lot. We had around 2 hrs class of a week refresh doing many questions and he was very passionate and detailed when he was tutoring. I took IELTS in August and got 6.0 for writing. I retake again in December and went to her 2 weeks before my IELTS. I specifically requested guidance in writing and it improved from 6.0 to 6.5. I find that she is very dedicated as she checked and analysed all my previous essays to check for common mistakes that I tend to make when I write essays. The common mistakes she detected has helped me a lot in improving my writing. I find that she is very sincere in teaching as she really makes sure that I understand the items that she has taught. She also gave me a lot of tips to help me get higher marks in the IELTS Writing.

He's calm and understands what my problem is, when I'm dealing with my maths subjects in A Level..
