I consider myself a versatile musician and a passionate educator. As a performer, I have performed as a pianist and harpsichordist at the Chamber Music Series of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, as a composer, my music has been performed by the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and abroad; as a teacher, I have taught at several universities and private music schools. Some of my students have won scholarships to study at the music specialist school Wells Cathedral in the UK.

To me, rather than mindless drilling, finding natural ways of how the hands move is the key to solving many technical issues. Instead of asking for more feelings, my instructions are concrete. I see music education as a holistic education on aesthetics. Therefore, it gives me joy to see my students grow as a person, as much as a musician, to develop a sense of love for their surrounding, for culture and history etc.

Children pick up bad habits and wrong techniques easily in their early years of learning. Hence the first teacher plays a vital role in the success of learning an instrument as corrections of wrong techniques learnt would require diligent and painstaking effort on the part of the teacher as well as the student. Techniques such as the correct key attack, touch, hand position, body movement, transfer of weight etc are taught early on from beginners stage. Success in learning would also depend on how closely a student is able to follow the teacher's instruction on how to practice. A piano lesson would include Practical and Theory of Music, Sight Reading, Aural and Music Appreciation. Practical would comprise of a technique book, a lesson book and additional repertoire pieces.

My tutoring experience consists mostly of one-on-one classes with students aged 10 and below. I have completed my Grade 8 exam of Trinity College with a high distinction (93/100). I am now preparing for my ATCL exam.

My lessons usually include some work on technique (e.g. proper hand form, rhythm exercises, recognizing notes etc.) and some work on developing musicality (feeling rhythm, natural phrases of songs, musical direction etc.). I tailor each lesson to suit each student, rather than forcing all my students to learn the same songs. Furthermore, I focus on fostering an interest in piano early on-- flying fingers and impeccable rhythm will follow after, naturally.
