Experience

I graduated with second upper class in BSc in Business in 2010. I also completed MBA in UNITAR International University with CGPA of 3.88 in 2016 and ACCA Professional Qualification in 2020.   During my university studies, I was working as a part time tutor for around 4 years. I was handling BM, BI and Maths tuition classes for Standard 4 till Form 3. I am also a certified TESOL (English) teacher. Subsequently after graduation, I started my working life in commerce and banking industry while teaching tuition part time for many years. Currently I am full time lecturer in one of the tertiary colleges in Penang.   Overall I have more than 8 years of teaching tuition experience in English, Maths, Add Maths and Economics for secondary schools (SPM, IGCSE) and pre-university levels (STPM).

Tutoring Approach

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and  being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems.   My philosophy is based on the idea that learning happens in an environment of mutual respect in which the student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves.  My experience has been that one-to-one personal tuition has a unique value to students because of the ability to resolve the students’ personal barriers to learning in a way that lays the foundations for a deep and lasting understanding of the subject. My approach varies depending on the student’s needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world exampleswherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually.  I don’t lecture to students or ask them to memorise things.  Nor do I do the students’ homework for them! I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student’s understanding and technique. I also give a lot of emphasis to some of the less obvious but vital skills such as essay structure and technique, logical thought, and the effective use of numbers and graphs.

Experience

I have taught at private colleges/university and currently, I am providing one-to-one home tutoring as well as group tuition classes. I have worked in the industry in the past and I can used those experience to relate to my teachings. I am a patient person and I would like to drill my students to achieve to the best of their abilities. My strengths are my English language fluency, academic prowess, and I read a lot. My qualifications include Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Organisational Behaviour, Master of Business Administration (MBA), ACCA, and BSc in Applied Accounting. I'm pretty good in drawing and painting too. Yes, I took Pendidikan Seni for SPM and I got an A1. Overall, I scored 8 As in SPM.

Experience: I have part time tutoring experience since 2018-Present and 2011-2013 Employment.

Qualifications: I'm a Financial Accountant in an MNC in Penang from year 2015 and have pursued my MBA specialising in Finance and currently in final stages. I also have a B.Com in Accounting & Finance from an Australian University.

Strengths: I have foreign exposure which has enhanced my communication & interpersonal skills. Practicing meditation since age 9, so I have a calm and patient nature.

Tutoring Approach

Teaching style: My teaching style is tailored according to the student's capability of grasping and commitment to work hard. I assess the student's progress on a consistent basis and ensure plenty of practice is done to reinforce the concepts and principles learnt. I plan to assess a student on the first meet with a short test based on the subject, to gauge the student's level of subject literacy and familiarity. Weekly 2 hour lessons would suffice for a regular class time, otherwise, additional hours will be advised if students require more urgent/extra help in the subject as per case to case basis. Every class would be split into relevant time frames to accommodate 4 sections of the class:

1. Teaching of concepts/subject matter

2. Practice time with guidance

3. Review of practice questions and answers to further reinforce the learning material

4. Homework and review for the subject matter learnt in previous class I'm an approachable character with industry experience that will be a value add for the student to learn from. If things get too boring during a class, a little mindful break with breathing techniques or short stretches will be done to help the student relax and focus better in the class.

I shall identify student's weakness areas and build a study programme for the student in order to improve the weakness areas.  Student interaction, giving examples and questions makes learning more effective.

I am a lecturer who is currently lecturing in a tertiary education institution. I have been teaching/giving tuition for more than 10 years and have successfully created a number of students who are now pursuing their tertiary education with scholarships. I work hard with students to improve the students' academics and personalities. I am good in many subjects and able to take up any challenges given to me.

Apart from that, out of tuition hour, if students face problems in academic, I am willing to answer questions through telephone call (provided I am free at that hour).
